I've lived in both Newcastle and Leeds - that's quite a tough question, I have to admit. Both universities are excellent places to get a degree from. The quality is very similar although I'd say Newcastle is probably slightly better. Both cities have lots of good bars, pubs and clubs. Newcastle has the Quayside, Leeds has Call Lane. You won't get bored with either. If you're more into underground music (specific bands or djs), Leeds is slightly better. It's closer to London and Manchester - not quite as many names make it as far North as Newcastle. Leeds also has slightly more clubs and venues for that sort of thing. As I mentioned though, both have excellent night life. Both are quite safe cities, as long as you're sensible. I've heard more about muggings, fights and burglaries in Leeds than Newcastle, but still, not very many compared to other cities. Heaton in Newcastle and Headingley in Leeds are both quite decent areas for students, although you occasionally get the odd dodgy - type hanging around. Whichever one you choose, you'll have a great time. Both are awesome, friendly cities. Maybe you should visit, have a good look around both and decide which one you like best.
