My recommendation is to send your resume to Phillip Dana he specializes in placing the military. You can find him on linked In, or send your resume to him directly at danapm@aol.com. Good Luck!

Is there any value in getting an MBA or Master's in Human Resources? I think I need more HR training
Is there any value in getting an MBA or Master's in Human Resources? I think I need more HR training?
I'm a corporate recruiter with about 7 years experience. Most of my experience has been recruiting for financial services firms. Unfortunately I just recently got laid off due to the terrible state of the financial markets. I would like to move in to other areas of HR but I am not qualified for them because I only really have recruiting experience and no other formal training or experience in other areas of HR. What worries me if that no one is hiring at the moment and they are projecting 2009 is supposed to be worse than 2008 – and if that is the case, a lot of companies will not be hiring a lot and hence will not need recruiters. Plus with the markets and economy being what it is and with the number of candidates there are out on the market looking for jobs (who I am technically competing against for jobs), would I be smart to take the next 2 years and get a graduate degree? Is there any value added in getting a Masters or MBA in Human Resources? I have heard several people say it might not be worth my time and money as you do not need an MA or MBA to work in HR, so I wonder if it is worth it or not. So – what do I do? Do I…. 1) Continue to apply for recruiting jobs in this downturn economy and hope that someone somewhere gives me an interview and possibly even a job offer? 2) Take a big cut in salary and title (which I can afford to do luckily) and start from scratch looking for (and possibly taking) an HR Coordinator/Jr. Generalist or another entry HR type role where I can learn a new facet of HR from the ground up? 3) Or should I sink my time and money into getting an MA or MBA in HR? A lot of people argue it is not necessary to get a graduate degree in HR and that you can learn everything on the job. Any thoughts? THANKS!!!!

From everything i've heard, recruiting is a dead end. Now is a great time to reevaluate but blindly getting another degree isn't your answer. If HR is your thing, then start learning more about it, round out your skills, and set yourself up for when the economy turns around

Yes a masters degree would be good and in today's market the best. I have heard and seen that now people are wanting people with a masters degree in their area or 3 to 4 years experience. You have 7 that's great!! You have experience in one area of HR, now why not try to get a Masters in perhaps another area of HR. That will make you look better and greatly improve your chances of getting a job and moving up the ladder to a much higher job within HR. You see what I mean? You have 7 years experience which looks great in recruiting, now how about getting a masters in HR in the area of say education and development. That would make you at least twice as likely to get a good job and you will open many more doors. Best of luck to you! You I'm sure already know about this website but if not or if you have forgotten it, it has some good info on the HR industry. http://www.shrm.org/

Many people think that the MBA consists of majors or concentrations that give you in depth training in a specific field. The degree Master of Business Administration is not the same as Master of Science. The MBA is a general broad degree covering a wide variety of business issues and training students for careers in managing any area of business up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, statistics, management, economics, strategy, policy, leadership and similar courses. The MBA was developed because people with technical backgrounds getting promoted into management are not always able to manage, and people in management often don't understand the technical fields they manage. That's why MBA programs prefer students with degrees in other than business and with 2-4 years of work experience. Their graduates learn to manage and can speak the language of the people they manage, whether that is engineering, chemistry, medicine, music, or any other field. The MS is a degree that concentrates study in a specific field, such as finance, accounting, electrical engineering, biology, or chemistry and trains students for careers in high level staff positions often involving research. Many MBA programs offer concentrations, but this usually amounts to 2-3 elective courses in a specific field in the second year of the program. Thus an MBA in marketing may amount to a student taking Market Research, Advertising, and Consumer Behavior as a marketing concentration, while a finance concentration may mean courses in Business Mergers, Security Analysis, and Cost Accounting. Instead of a concentration, an MBA student may opt to take a broad range of electives in Production, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management and other areas in order to broaden his background rather than concentrating in a single area. Before you consider which MBA program is for you, consult the Official MBA Guide, a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, etc), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

For starters, you need to decide exactly what type of career path you would like to take. I would recommending tailoring your resume accordingly. I would also visit job websites such as Yahoo Hot Jobs, Careerbuilder.com, & Monster.com. You can not only search job listings, you can actually have them email you listings daily, weekly or as often as you choose based on the criteria you set. Post your resume on those sites (as well as any other ones you feel would be helpful) as soon as you can. In the mean time, you can have the emails coming in so that you can see what your prospects look like. If there are any specific companies that you know of which may offer positions of interest to you, I would recommend checking their websites; they'll usually have a "careers" section you can look into for available jobs with them. Above all, don't give up or become discouraged if you don't find something right away. You may need to apply to several jobs, & even go on a few interviews before you land something. As long as you keep trying, you'll find the position that is right for you. By the way, on a personal note, thank you for your service to our country. I hope this is helpful to you.

HOLOCAUST: Clash of so-called Superiorities
HOLOCAUST: Clash of so-called Superiorities?
Does it happend during a religious war? No! Hitler created racial superiority in Germans for the gain of world resources & Land. He was not engaged in any religious war! Then why it happend!!!! Jews always cry for Holocaust but forget their Holy wars and mas-genocide of millions of innocent gentile and selecting vergin women and girls over 3 years for ....what? Just merely for a piece of land!!!! Capturing lands & resources cannot be maintained forever!!! Where is the promised land? It is still a disputed Arab-land because it is given to Pelestenans. God is Almighty: the only Superior being! HE dislikes the idealogy of human superiority to maintain a balance in human socities & cultures. It was a curse...punishment from God! Try to understand & seek God Will !!! Submit idealogy of superiority! and live in peace!!!

Muslims believe exactly the same thing, so in your own argument look at your own people for the punishment from God Peace be upon you neither is right

I agree with all that you have said except that god cursed us with idealogy.God gave us free will as human beings and man brought this on himself not all men but some like hitler .The answer lies with peace harmony equality for all but i doubt this will ever happen until jesus returns .May god bless you and keep you forever .Amen

Actually the land of Israel was given to them by the Lord our God when He delivered them out of slavery in Egypt. It was written that The Lord our God would restore them to the promised Land. from whence He had driven them. But you should look at your own nation, which doesnt always obey the Lord our God either. Did you know that Hitler's mother was Jewish?

Can cult-like chanting of "Hope!", "Change!" clean the oil spill
Can cult-like chanting of "Hope!", "Change!" clean the oil spill?
(Have any of you guys seen this? I think it's effin' brilliant! So I thought I'd share it) IDEA: HOW TO SOLVE THE OBABASPILL IN GULF DISASTER - HAVE HIS CULTISTS HEAD TO THE GULF AND CHANT "HOPE!", "CHANGE!" AT IT IN CANDLELIT VIGILS BENEATH STRYOFOAM PILLARS. Here's another commerical we'd love to see the RNC or Tea Party people run. Please feel free to take any of these ideas and run with them, as we don't have the capability to do this stuff ourselves, and wish we had acces to the equipment, funding and the resources to pull this off. As we think of things, we put them out there, and it's our intent for those of you out there reading with connections to just run with this. We'd love to see a commercial made, for both YouTube and TV runs, where the thousands of bleary-eyed, zombified Obama cultists chanting "Hope! Change! O-Ba-ma!" are superimposed over images of the Gulf shoreline and Obamaspill disaster. They are holding candles. They are delivering homage unto their Lightbringer. The stryofoam columns and faux-Olumpian set from Obama's Denver Convention acceptance speech have returned, and are planted in the waters of the Gulf, like a petroleum-slicked Atlantis. On the shore, toes tickled by rainbow swirling water, the cultists chant: HOPE! CHANGE! O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA! We think the American public needs to be reminded of the insanity of 2008 that got us to where we are today. Someone needs to establish that intellectual and psychological link between the personality cult of Obama and the Media fueled in the campaign, and the man in the Oval Office who was elected because so many were conned into believeing his lack of experience or record didn't matter, because his personal charm and individual magic were enough to overcome anything that he faced in the world's most important and difficult job. All those hours they spent chanting to get him elected, all huddled together, like the fools that they are...needs to be remembered by the public at large and exposed for the bufoonery it was. Can their chants solve this disaster in the Gulf? Can their hope and change save the day? Let's ask the public to think about this...and for the cultists themselves to question what exactly "Hope" and "Change" mean for situations like the one we are faced with now? We were promised a LIghtbringer sent from the stars who would come to Earth so solve all of our problems. The Nobel Prize Committee affirmed his lunacy by awarding Obama what was supposed to be the planet's highest honor...and they based their decision on the mere fact he said "Hope" and "Change" a lot and they thought this was a marvelous plan, deserving of an award that was not granted to some of the greatest human beings who have ever lived. So, Obama's received so many accolades, and has been crowned by laurels extensively. He became, to his cult, a demigod. Now is the time for him and his followers to produce the magic we were promised. Someone needs to get on television, YouTube, and other vusual media and start putting these visuals out there. We sure would, if we could, but at least we can provide the idea. (It's a pisser, ain't it?)

Should I go into MBA
Should I go into MBA?
I majored communication studies. But, I feel that I might waste my time and money if I continue my education in communication studies. Honestly, I do not think that having a MA in humanities or social science will not lead me to a career I want unless I want to teach. I want to be a business woman. I am interested in a human resource or management position. Should I go into MBA? There is a major called organizational communication, but I think that communication studies is for more like academic career such as teaching than business. I prefer to earn decent money. Since I am not a native English speaker, I am so worried about passing GMAT. I am planning to take some math classes. Can you give me some advice?

There are schools that dont put a lot of weight on the GMAT exam. You should definitely get your MBA degree and start doing internship in the field. Good Luck ok. ss

Has anyone done this? Is this a scam
Has anyone done this? Is this a scam?
A company by the name of JPL Independent & Co LTD contacted me via e-mail if I was interested in a job with them. The job would allow me to work from home. By going over their web site http://jplindependent.org/index.php it seemed good to me so I agreed. They don’t ask for money what so ever only for my contact information and Bank account number to which they will deposit my paycheck too. So I e-mailed them back the completed application and my resume. They emailed me back to day telling me my training start tomorrow and via internet so one will be contacting me as well. If I have any questions to call this number (781) 241 9930. Well, I called and its not a working # and 781 area code appears to be located in Lexington, MA, when the website indicates the company is located in Buxton, Derbyshire overseas. Now am scared because they have my personal information and account # (not my SS# though). What can I do? Or What should I do? i dont want to know about any other work from home site, only if this is a scam! Also they e-mailed me these instructions: TRAINING COURSE BASIC INFORMATION/ The training days don't have to be consecutive (you can make breaks for one or several days if it's necessary). Your application was reviewed by the Human Resource Department and your candidacy was approved. After you complete the free training course company guarantees your employment within one business day. Your daily raining wage: $50.00 (the money that you receive in the beginning of each training day as compensation for your time and all the expenses associated with the training - transport, phone, Internet connection etc.). If for technical reasons your training has to be postponed you receive the training wage as well. The course is distant, except for two personal meetings with one of company’s managers in your city. While passing the course you will be permanently assisted by the phone. While studying, you will permanently move from the easiest to more complicated levels. Each lesson contains a theoretical and a practical part. Everyday you will receive studying materials that you should earn and streng then your knowledge by passing tests. The training course starts with familiarizing with payment systems. During the first three training days you will get familiarized with all the payment systems that interact with ECSS system. Look, I don't know if it's legit or not but if it's not, I would contact your bank and tell them. They can contact you when any transaction is being attempted.

Yes, this is likely a scam. I checked the records on their website at http://www.whois.net/ and it was only created in May. That doesn't necessarily mean it is a scam, but with the other information it sure sounds like one. Here is what you need to do. 1. Halt all further communication from them. Don't give them more info about you until this is settled. 2. Tell your bank. Depending on how much info you gave them, they might not have enough info to actually get money out of you. You may have caught them in the first steps. Tell your bank exactly what you gave them and they will know if it is enough to be dangerous. They can then place a hold on your account or whatever else is needed. if it turns out to be a scam: 3. File a fraud report at: http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx 4. This company is hosting their webpage. You can file a scam report with them as well and they will investigate and take down the page. http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/

Besides learning theory you will practice with performing elementary operations (sending/receiving money, depositing on account etc.) to be able to answer clients questions and consult them in real time. Why can't an ex Registered Nurse get a job
Why can't an ex Registered Nurse get a job?
I'm a 57 year old male, and I was an RN for 27 years. For 20 of those years I worked ICU/CCU in a regional trauma center. Now I deeply and profoundly do not want to be a floor nurse or a bedside nurse. I'd be perfectly happy making a lot less money doing something else, but I can't even get a job as a medical assistant (lots less stress) at one of the Doc in a Box deals. I've even considered driving a taxi cab. My computer skills are good, and I even have a BA and an MA in English Lit. So, why can't I find a job? Am I over qualified? Too old? I'm a little over weight, but jeeze...I'm a good worker, got that old time work ethic, show up on time, get the job done, etc. People have told me to be a nursing case manager, etc. But those jobs are few and far between. I've been turned down for jobs that seemed like an excellent fit for me. I show up for interviews neatly groomed in a good looking business suit. I've been told by human resource people that I interview well, but no job. I'm discouraged. I don't need anything wonderful and fulfilling...I'd even prefer low key, just to bring a few bucks in. Oh, and I'm in Northern California...doesn't help I think. Does any one have input for me? Maybe I'll drive that taxi cab, sort of just for fun...again, I seriously do not want to be a bed side nurse anymore. Please, none of this scam, online money making crap. I'm not going to pay someone to give me a job. I file complaints against all that stuff. I'm hoping for some legitimate input.

It's hard for most people to get a job right now. You may want to consider leaving the MA off your resume and toning down your abilities, skills, and longevity at anything. You don't want to appear smarter than your boss.

What do I do if I received an unwanted gift from a co-worker of the opposite sex
What do I do if I received an unwanted gift from a co-worker of the opposite sex?
I work in a corporate office building. There is an older man who works in the warehouse of our company. There have already been complaints about him and his "too-friendly" attitude. He constantly stops by my desk, he asks questions about my personal life, calls me names like "honey, my love, beauty" and so forth. I always keep a serious demeanor, apart from just greeting him (to not be rude) and answer with yes or no, never wanting to carry a long conversation with him. Sometimes if I am on the phone he will just stand in front of my desk and stare at me until I get off the phone. The thing is sometimes when he flirts with some older co-workers (women) they don't mind and this is why I think he thinks it is ok to continue this behavior. So he had casually mentioned that he was going to get me a x-mas present, and I said "No, thank you I really don't want anything" I thought I was safe because x-mas passed and he didn't bring me anything. Then today he stops by brings a present for my boss (who had previously given him a present) and then taps me on the shoulder and presents me with a really nice jewelry gift I started to say "sorry but I can't accept this" when my boss says "you can't say no!" and takes it from him and shoves it on me. Now I am left with a set of diamond and emerald earrings and necklace that I wasn't going to accept in the first place. I have two choices: 1. Tell Human Resources about him, and he might get fired due to his history or 2. Talk to him after work, give him back the gift explaining that I can't accept such an elaborate gift and hope that he doesn't do it again and get's the hint. What do I do???

Just tell him how you feel and return the jewelry. Let him know your husband/boyfriend wants you to return them. If that doesn't work, email me and I'll send you my address to send the jewelry to me.
2
tell him its too much of a gift and you plainly cannot except it.Then you can tell him his flirting makes you uncomfortable and you want him to stop it immediatly.
3
wow that dude makes some serious cash to be buying you those items. Anyway this is a toughie indeed and my heart goes out to you. It is uncomfortable without a doubt but at the same time by accepting it shows that you are willing to take things from him. If I were you I would go to your boss show him the items he gave you and say this is totally inappropriate for this type of setting and that your BF or hubby or whomever would be very upset coming home with these personal gifts and dump the items on his desk and say "could you please take care of this for me as my boss"
4
try the 2nd option first n if he doesnt stop go for the 1st one
5
I would talk to him after work and explain to him the way you feel. When he sees you are serious it should solve the problem. I wouldn't be to hard on the old guy. You might be the woman of his dreams. Good luck!!!
6
Definitely go for option 2. You don't want to get him fired. Kindly give him the gift back and make it clear to him that you and him can never be anything more than friends.
7
Decent thing to do, without hurting him and putting a distance between you and him is to return with apologies. Say you can't accept such a gift and be firm. People like choices. If you wish you could suggest a small gift to keep him happy. This is only a tongue-in-cheek suggestion because it may encourage him and then you are really in trouble. Use your judgement on this approach. But, going to HR is not called for. If he harasses you in any way you have reason to put HR on notice of such a behaviour from an employee. Touching? Ha, march right into HR and make a written complaint. Saying a firm NO with a stern voice and not making eye contact and outright ignore will set him straight. No good mornings or wishes or how-are-you type of small talk with this guy.
8
diamonds......you dont want that?! Holy hell I would take it but it's just me. When dealing with older men ...btw i think he likes you....but when dealing with them take him to the side and explain to him why you cannot accept his gift. Make up a lie....tell him you have a bf or something to that nature.
9
First I would let him know that your feeling uncomfortable with his too-friendly attitude. At the same time that you mention this to him, mention it to your boss as well. This gives both of them an opportunity to address it without any consequence like being fired. If the behavior continues, then mention it to HR and note the day that you told him and your manager. But I wouldn't do it outside of work in order for HR to not be limited. That could be a loop hole that what happens outside of work, stays outside of work. It shouldn't to me, but with the way some laws are written it wouldn't surprise me. So, the next time he comes to you and it's not work related, I would mention it to him and your manager. Don't put any threats of HR in it. Just ask him to stop because it's making you uncomfortable. Then go from there. I should add, at the time that you mention it to him, give the gift back also.
10
I would go cash that in for whatever money I could get for it. You already said you didn't want anything and he was intent on giving you something.
11
NO HR, your second option is best, talk to him and thank him but give it back and explain you cannot and will not accept such a gift from him now or ever and your boss had no right to do that.
12
You need to consult Human Resources, and document all of this with them. Not only is your co-worker's behavior way beyond inappropriate, but also that of your boss in insisting that you accept a gift you were in the process of turning down. People like this are unscrupulous and do not take hints. You have already made yourself very clear and he is harassing you by continuing to force unwanted attentions on you. And the gift sounds so expensive that it might even be stolen, in which case you could be implicated for receiving stolen property. A man who works in the warehouse can't afford "diamond and "emerald" jewelry (if in fact they are real). Be very careful here! It might be best to turn the gift in to HR, with a full description of the circumstances and be sure to get a receipt for it. You do not need to be arrested as an accessory!
13
Difficult. Just don't ever allow yourself to be alone with him, ever. Not for any reason, find another co-worker if you have to work or discuss work, but don't put yourself in that situation. It can only get worse or encourage him. Don't handle this after work either.
14
Take it back to his office/ desk and just place it on the desk or in his mail box. Tell him this is inappropriate. (or you can mail it to his wife...stating you can't accept this gift) WHEN HE CALLS you honey, or my love... tell him "my name is Rachel NOT HONEY!!! and keep it up. I would talk to Human Resources ... letting them know you won't take action at this time but to make a paper trail just in case in the future it escalates. DON'T EXPECT this man to "GET THE HINT" HE won't He is the type that thinks if he just keeps giving you this kind of thin you will break... and you will! good luck (this kind of guy is a pain) and your boss should never had done what they did!
15
You are quite correct to refuse the gift. I suggest that you keep your conversation to the confines of your workplace - maybe during lunch with others around. You might me unsafe alone with him. If talking to him on your own does not seem to be working tell him you will have to go to human resources with the situation. The gift is just too much to be appropriate. You should also explain to your boss that you are not the type of girl to accept such a gift and then let the matter drop. If neither of these people are willing to drop things at this point, take the gift with you to human resources and explain things, telling them that you do not wish to have this held over your head at a later date and prefer to return the gift. Let them know that you have first tried to handle this yourself and what the results have been. Be proud of yourself for having the scruples you have as one can only guess what lies around the corner in a situation like this. God bless you and good luck.
16
I agree with RK. HR needs to be informed. This needs to be documented. Leave your bf/husband out of the equation. This is a professioal matter and needs to be handled in a professional manner according to laws dealing with the work place. He has overstepped his boundaries. Your boss was out of line also. This needs to be reported to their supervisor. It needs to be handled immediately. It has gone on too long. Again, do not be alone with this person. The gift was over the line. Be prepared for some rough times. Know that it should be handled discreetly, but it will get out that they were reported. So be strong. Hang in there and you will find out who your friends are. If it is not handled in an immediate fashion or glossed over, you can consult an attorney to see where you stand. There isn't supposed to be any recriminations.

Return the gift and be direct with him. Tell him, "I'm sorry, but I can't accept your gift. And I would prefer if you would please keep our relationship to a professional one only. I do not wish to include you in my private life." If he continues to bother you after that, you can speak to your boss or call Human Resources.
18
Well dont get him fired. That is just rude...considering how nice he is to you. Just talk to him after work and say that you would like to keep things professional between the both of you and that you cannot except such a lavish gift because you feel bad that you cant afford something as nice for him.

Wow, with your credentials, I could see you being very successful in the business that I am in...Freelife International. This would be perfect for creating leverage as well as residual income. Freelife is an 11 year old, debt free company that is in excellent standing with the Better Business Bureau. They also have a cutting edge compensation plan unlike any other out there. I think you should have a look at it and let me know what you think of it, perhaps this is the break you've been looking for.

What is the problem that you are facing? I saw you answering a question perfectly on the difference between a Passport and a Visa. Now I can see that you have again fallen into the trap of repetitive questions of "Certificate Attestation for...." I was wondering where your past similar questions are where the country names were changing for identical questions. should I call or wait
should I call or wait?
5 days ago I interviewed in Florida. I was contacted 2 hrs later and offered a job. Initial offer was $13/hr - same as what I make currently in MA. I contacted same person (Gen. Manager) 2 days later and asked if we could add some health Benefits into the offer. He told me he would look into it with human resources in the morning and could I call him back at 11am. I called and got his voicemail. He knows I'm on vacation for 3 more days. It's been 3 days since that last conversation and I'm worried they mayhave "abandoned" me. Should I check in or give it some more time? I want this job and I'm pretty sure they want me. I kind of agree with zornudo- I hope they're just checking the details for me. And I don't want to be too pesky. This all happened quickly! Terry- thanks for your answer. I'm making $13/hr with 100% paid family plan now. I hope to start at the same in Florida. I think I will call mondayt afternoon if I don't hear back by then. Just to check.

I would think that a general manager would have a lot on his plate. He's probably not ignoring you, just really busy and HE probably has not heard from HR.

i just went thru a 15 month job search with over 35 interviews. i got to the second interview with almost all of them. to a man, they said that they would call me. i got calls from 3! if you want the job, i would call him monday am and ask him where you are in the process. all you are doing is asking for information upon which to base a decision. if you get the voice mail, ask him to leave a message on your phone (if it's private) or tell him that you will call him back about 3 pm at the end of the day. if he doesn't respond in a couple of days, you may want to try one more time. if by then he hasn't responded, you got your answer. people call it busy, i call it rude. People don't follow up with interviewees. I know you want the job but you have to set a deadline, after which you have to move on. By the way, i would wonder about a $13@hr job that didn't have health benefits. At that pay rate, it's going to be tight to afford it on your own.

Which degree is more useful? A BA in Business or a JD Degree
Which degree is more useful? A BA in Business or a JD Degree?
Hello, I'm about to finish my combined BA/MA Public History degree, and it is at this point I think I made a mistake. I'm only 25 so I guess I still have time to fix this problem. I don't want to be a lawyer, but I was told my background in history would make Law School pretty easy. I was also told I can do other things with a JD degree other then law. So, which is better, a BA in Business (possibly human resources) or a JD Degree? Also, what minor is best to get with a BA in Business? Thanks. On what I wanted to do with my present degree, I wanted to work in an Historical organization or a government job, with teaching as a backup plan. I should have my Masters Degree in Public History by the end of Spring 2009. Thanks for the answers so far :) The thing is, I'm so close to getting my masters degree and it is now that I realize my job opportunities with this degree is quite low. The advisers told me otherwise, but I now found out the truth :/

If you don't want to be a Lawyer, do not go to Law School. You will hate it. Why don't you apply to an MBA program?
3
There is no comparrison. A BA in business is an undergraduate degree and a JD is a post-graduate degree. You would need the former to enroll in the latter, but you are under no obligation to do so. If you do not want to go to law school, then don't. Find employment or complete a masters or Ph.D. program.

Law school will be a waste of your time and money if you don't want to become a lawyer. If you want to get your advanced degree, I think a master's in anything would be fine. As for a minor, it really depends on what you want to do. You didn't say what your future plans are so I can't help you there.

How do you deal with rude people
How do you deal with rude people?
I went on this website for a job, they said they were hiring on the mall website, but on the store website it didn't have a link for me to apply for where i live, it just had Cosmetics counter CA , and Retail Sales-TX etc... but the one that i needed was not there. So i called the store.. they had automated thing which got me no where, so i talked to a store operator. Explained my problem, and she transfered my call to comestic counter, noone answered. So i transfer back to operators.. a different lady answers, and i tell her i just spoke to an operator and said that I wanted to apply for a job online but that it wasn't listed...etc. (what i wrote already) And she said in a very superficial way, "Good for you!" and i was stunned. and just kept talking saying that I didn't know who to talk to about this. So that lady transfered my call to Human Resources. No one answered. So i transfered back to the operators. And another loud operator answered. I told her what happened and how no one had answered when they transfered me,.. and she interrupted me and loudly said "We can't control that ma'am" in a tone that implyed i was stupid or something and she didn't want to deal with me. And she continued to talk over me and then I heard a click and she transfered my call again. And if she would've let me talk... I would have said, Of course i know you can't control who answers the phone, I just wanted to know if there was another person I could talk to about this situation, and if not then Ok. But she rudely clicked and transfered me back to Human Resources. How do you deal with rude people? It honestly upsets me when ppl are rude to me when I haven't done anything and i'm being kind. I just want to know how do you deal with it. I'm tired of constant rude people, and i never know how to deal with them, or what to say, and it upsets me and embarrasses me. Because I am timid.

1. Look right at them say their name and tell them to stop. Keep repeating until their attitude changes or they stop. Example "Mike, stop", or you can say, "That's not appeciated, cut that out." Keep increasing aggressiveness as necessary until the balance of power is equalized. They don't want to cooperate with you, they want to control you. 2. Be better than them. If they brag or do something annoying, look at their facial expressions. Is their face blank and matter-of-fact, or does it have a smirk? If it is the latter, proceed on. If it isn't, simply try to turn the conversation. 3. Take a second to maintain your calm. After a while, you will start doing this automatically. 4. Give a smart, but polite reply that will not hurt either of you, but deeply satisfy your feelings. Here are some examples: "I have a cell phone. I bet you don't!" you would say "Of course I don't. I don't need one, as I prefer to enjoy talking to people face-to-face." "Why are you acting like a nerd?" say "I'm sorry. I am a geek not a nerd." 5. Always be on the ready. Whenever you are at leisure, think of some common crows that people make, and make your own polite reply. 6. Don't give them what they want by acting jealous. If they keep bragging, just smile and say "That's nice." 7. Act like you're more mature than they are. 8. Steer the conversation away to something they couldn't possibly be rude about, like the weather. 9. Avoid them if they keep on bothering you. 10. Try to ignore them if they keep on bothering you after you try all of the previous steps.

You need to report this to the supervisor or manager for rude staff and employees. Just call back to them and ask for the manager/supervisor or visit their website if they have one and contact them there. If you remember the time it occurred, include that. Mostly, I just give them a glare and then ignore them.
7
It depends on how brave I am. Sometimes I just pity them, assume that they are breaking up with their boyfriend and blaming the world, and forgive them. They usually hate that. Occasionally, I stop them and say, "I don't know if you realize that you sounded very rude just then, I am sure you did not mean that." Or I ask for clarification; "Did you intend to be rude to me, or was that just a confusion?" Even if they did mean it, they usually apologize. And if they don't, at least you have called them on their bad behavior. You can of course ask for a supervisor, depending on the circumstances that may help.

Hey, Being timid and submissive won't do any good for you. Often people who are soft and give in easily are treated in this fashion all their life. If you ask me I'd say that you will have to learn to be tactful. If you react emotionally or meekly to rudeness then it will only encourage people to continue behaving badly. Don't take things lying down respect yourself and make sure people around you do the same. In case of the above situation you should personally go to this place and have a talk with the concerned authorities. Don't get nervous or heated up, be calm and send across your point. Tell them you know that there job's not easy but then there is something like business ethics and public relations. Be firm and confident because they are the culprits not you. Lastly dear, be prepared for more such situations in life.

It sounds unlikely. However if it were possible, it would probably require a lawyer, and a lengthy legal process, (that would probably have little chance of success). Your best option might be to contact the places where you studied, and ask them what recourse you might have. Also, it would seem likely that the ruling by the Ministry of Human Resources would probably not be retroactive. It may only apply to future students. Contact the Ministry and ask.

good or bad-grad school
good or bad-grad school?
So right now I'm an English major. Although I plan on taking some psych courses, I don't have research experience or anything like that, such as a minor. I'd eventually like to do something in the marketing/human resource field. Do you think that getting my MA/PhD in something like social psychology would be ideal or a waste of time? (MBA requires work experience.)

of course MBA requires work experience. It even requires a GMAT score. If that is what you want to go for, then you should go for it. But, i think the companies would prefer an MBA because these areas are more towards business. You could also try and get an entry level position in these departments (hey, you have a bachelors and that is a major requirement) and get some experience too. That helps.

What career path should I take
What career path should I take?
I'm a 27 year old young woman with a BA and MA in Italian Studies but am currently working in the Human Resources field. I want to do something creative and most importantly where I can make a difference in someones life. I would like to consider teaching Italian but there are such few jobs in that area. I would have to go back to school to teach in my state anyway. Is it worth getting more student loans? Should I wait it out where I am for a management position? Should I be a teacher? Help!

Should I get another Bachelor's
Should I get another Bachelor's?
I have a BA in Human Resources. I am currently getting a MA in Teaching to teach elementary, I will graduate May 2011. I wish I would have chosen a liberal arts major. I think I want another Bachelor's in American Studies when I'm done with this Master's. My career is focused on education reform and the achievement gap. Will getting the American Studies bachelor's put me in a good position to pursue a PhD in the future or go to law school? I feel like that is what I want to do but I don't know if it's weird or regressive to get a Bachelor's after getting a master's. I think I want to do it because I regret my major, that it's not liberal arts and American Studies is highly recommended for urban teachers.

Getting another Bachelor's would be a huge waste of time and money. The only reason to get another bachelor's is if you are able to secure a position with a college or university -that doesn't offer a Masters or PhD program-and take classes for free, otherwise you're far better off spending your tuition money on a Master's Degree.
2
why would you want a liberal arts major? all employees say it gives you no plusses, maybe a technical one If you want a phd, talk to the university, I don't think they would object to human resources (which is human science also)

The practicum should begin by the first week of december 2009 and i'm getting married in january 2010. what area of research will be apt if i'm planning to do a research paper with the employees of an organization?? Stress, job anxiety, job satisfaction etc..are very common research areas. kindly suggest few interesting and at the same time, quite 'simple' area for my research.

Hey there, you could look at the concept of burnout- I believe this is more likely to occur early in someones career because automatic processing is not yet up and running, therefore more mental resources are required early on in a persons career. I did some research on it in relation to teachers and the low retention rate of those who are new to the profession. Good luck
3
You could do something about survivors guilt of employees who keep their jobs during a massive lay off.

First, congratulations on your pending marriage in January -and, kudos for your commitment to get your Master's degree. A possible consideration for industrial psychology is to investigate the relationship between employee turnover (also known as quit decisions) and the management/leadership styles of those who directly oversee employees (staff).. There is an abundance of scholarly research material that looks at each of these factors separately and in combination ... as such, you will not lack resources from the Literature Review perspective. In addition, this is a study that lends itself well to both quantitative and qualitative research designs and that allows you greater flexibility and -in my view- a more robust and practical approach for your personal interest in the study. Good luck ... also, please feel comfortable in emailing any clarifying questions.

I suggest looking at the variables that determine success and/or failure on the job. You can look through successful and unsuccessful employees eyes, as well as their bosses. Good luck! Ciao!

The role of OSHA in the work environment. Are the safety regulations realistic to employees or more of a pain in the butt. How strictly are they followed? Are small violations permitted, what happens if all OSHA guidelines are followed? Are there guidelines not being followed? How do employees feel about it? Establishing a pecking order in the work environment. Who is at the top of the order and why? Who is at the bottom of the order and why? Do the people at the bottom know they are at the bottom? Management style and productivity. Reward systems and productivity. Clearly set goals and productivity. Evaluations and their affect on employee performance. Employee evaluation styles and their effects on employee performance. Employee perception of employee rights? Management perception of employees and the effects of that perception on employee performance. Weather and employee performance. Employee sense of administrative control and employee performance. Salary and employee performance. (Increased salary = increased responsibility and a heavier workload or not?) Time off work and employee performance: (Employees who take more time off, sick days, emergency days, holidays, birthdays, are more or less productive (overall and while at work) than employees who take less time off. Bathroom cleanliness and employee satisfaction. (Does haveing a clean bathroom have anything at all to do with employee satisfaction?) Management accessability and employee satisfaction. Complaint procedures and employee satisfaction. Music in the work environment and employee motivation / satisfaction / performance. Will playing different kinds of music effect the work environment. Room temperature and employee performance. Which is the best tempreture to keep a room for optimum performance. Hospitals have already done a lot on colors and making people feel at ease, but how about color and performance. (Would wearing a uniform enhance performance? What color should jump suits be? ties? Jackets?) Level of education and employee performance. (Some very uneducated people work very hard.) Education and job satisfaction has been worked to death. How about education and a sense of belonging? Belonging to the company vs. working for the company. (Instead of belonging, pride in ones work and in ones self and in the company.)

How can I get a job, preferably in the human service field
How can I get a job, preferably in the human service field?
I have a BA in Psychology and working on a MA in Counseling. Since graduating a few years ago I have been trying to secure jobs in my field but that didn't get me very far. The jobs I managed to get were merely stipend and temporary (non profit: account executive, event coordinating, data entry, and advocate). What I desire to do is work more in the area children and families (i.e. therapeutic counselor, mental health tech, and etc). I have employment gaps initially due to injuries I received via a car accident (Doctor felt I could work regardless but I was unable to take the pain so I made a judgment call to resign) and later due to the economy. I have a strong work ethic and an even stronger desire to learn and improve. It's so crazy how a number of places will say,"You are over qualified" and others say "You don't have enough experience". I won't even mention Human Resource's attitude towards employment gaps. It's a struggle but I manage to remain positive. I need to work and will do whatever it takes to regain employment, including relocating.

Since you recently got your Bachelors and still working on your Masters, an internship would work great. You'll get enough hours for money and work experience while still having time to complete your Masters in a timely fashion. I'm not sure what school you got your BA and/or studying your MA at, but chances are they have internship opportunities. Most upper-grad level internships pay you and of course, they look great on your resume.

Thinking about going back to school, which degree should I get
Thinking about going back to school, which degree should I get?
I graduated with a BA in Social Services (an individualized degree) a couple years back. It really hasn't gotten me anywhere and I am someone's assistant in a job that doesn't even cover my bills. I am thinking about going back to school and looking at outlooks/earnings, my likes, etc, I've decided maybe either: Getting a BS in Human Resource Management OR a MA in Psychology. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts? I don't really have anyone to talk to about what would be best for me and my daughter's future. Thanks everybody. I'm now leaning more towards getting my MSN - Masters in Nursing. MBA would result in a job I would not enjoy. My heart is in helping people. Now to figure out financing the pre reqs!

human resource or industrial relations out of that two, or get a teaching certificate and the psych degree
2
Getting a second bachelor's degree is a waste of time. You want to move up, not sideways. Go for the MA.
3
Well if you want more "professional" advice I would go to one of the schools you might be interested in going to, and discussing with an advisor... Oftentimes they have a type of "career center" or even an adult services office that can help you try and deduce what you would want to do. For most, the correlation seems to be that the higher the degree, the better off you are, so since you already have a BA you may as well go forward with the MA, which could open up more opportunities for you. Like someone else said, you'd want to move up - not to the side. That, and a BS degree would probably require more work over a longer period of time (4 years usually), and if you are concerned about earning a better salary sooner, then perhaps a masters -- however more challenging -- will be a faster route, as it takes about 2 or so years.
4
I'd rather you get an MA in HRM. A BS in HRM won't do anything for you that your current BA isn't doing. An MA in psych - would you be employable after that? In what job? Another option would be to get an MBA. You could do an MBA with an HR concentration. If your plan is to go to school full time, you'll do an internship in the field. But if part time, you need to find other ways to gain related work experience while you study. If you go for an MA or MBA in HR, then speak to your current employer about taking on more HR-style responsibilities. It's the degree backed up with experience that will let you make this career transition, so you need to gain some related experience, on the job or elsewhere. Volunteer work could help as well, especially if you can't gain HR related experience at your job. No matter what, go to a reputable school. It can be a local state school, but since you're doing this for career purposes, I want you to avoid those for-profit/proprietary/famous for being online schools. So many employers violently dislike those that I'd really rather you look elsewhere.

Another bachelor's is a waste of time. Get a masters. Do note though an MA in psych is useless. You need a PhD to get anywhere in psych. Just go and get an MBA and be done with it.

Where can I find jobs or internships related to clinical psychology in the Philippines?
As a graduate of BS Psychology who does not want to go on to Medicine, I am looking for other career options outside the school setting (e.g. guidance counseling) or industrial (human resource). This is also in preparation for my impending enrollment in an MA degree for Clinical Psychology. Looking forward to your answers :)

Who should I address a cover letter if I don't have the info
Who should I address a cover letter if I don't have the info?
I'm handing in today my resume in an interview I have. But I don't know who will be interviewing me nor the address of the place (because it's in a hotel conference room or something like that). Who should I address the letter to? Dear Human Resources Representative? Also, what address would I write? or I just omit it? PS. I think Dear Ma'am or Sir it's too sexist as I could write Dear Sir and it's a woman who interviews me.

First, research the company on the web and see if you can find the officers listed. If not, make a call to the company and ask whoever answers the phone if they know the name of the person conducting interviews today. Explain your dilemma only if they ask why you need to know. Otherwise use a generic title such as HR Rep, Manager etc. As to the address, use the company name and the city and state only.
2
Write Dear Mam/Sir; Get company name and some kind of address from somewhere even if it is the street address of whole company.
3
Another idea is to address it to "Hiring Manager". Even though I am HR, I also value to ability to get past HR.
4
I was advised by a recruiter to address the letter simply Dear Manager,

1. Way to long - it needs to one page. 2. 1st paragraph is full of wordy jargon - get rid of it. 3. Tailor your resume for the company that you are sending it to. What kind of experience do you have that they looking for? If they are are a marketing company say what kind of sales and leadership you actually performed instead of saying "sales and leadership". 4. Limit the banking job to one or two lines since the banking job isn't pertinent to the sales and marketing job. Hope this helps

You are great. Your resume is hard to understand. Attempts to impress are boastful instead of factual. First paragraph is a waste of time. Throw it out. Abbreviate or eliminate half of the rest and then you'll have room for some hard-hitting bits. Directors and managers that are looking at a stack of resumes want creativity. Tell some experiences (limit to one line) that show yours. Substance. Real work. Results. Money or time saved. Profit earned. Ideas that you invented. "Oversaw" "Prospected" "Responsible for" "Involved in"??? Dump those and tell the results of your efforts. Paint a picture with words that will bring you in for an interview. Then don't be discouraged. "Nobody" has hired you yet because you haven't talked to everybody. Somebody will hire you. Guaranteed.

It looks like your credentials are at least in the right direction, but depending on what you're looking for, you may need more than that. If you're looking for a general-purpose kind of position like HR or PR, this is not an academic position and you can probably apply for those directly. But things like admissions, recruiting, and administration will require some showing of a desire to be a part of the academy as such. This could be done by spending some time in a support position at a university, or by getting a masters in higher education administration. But as you already have an MA, you're probably looking to get a job, not another degree. I wouldn't probably waste too much time on the athletics positions. If you really wanted to do that, you'd already know whether or not you're qualified and how to get those jobs. The people who are eligible already know who they are.

Ummm. . . . you have to have a 4 year degree to go in as an officer. You would not be able to drop an OCS package right when you enlist either. It will be a minimum of 2-3 years before you'll even be able to think about an OCS package.

It doesn't matter. One of the gals I worked with was enlisted as a Disbursing Clerk(money managing) but she was selected for training to become an officer in Nursing. Oh, and she had been enlisted in the Navy for 4 years at that point and was an E-5. There is a selection process that goes along with going from enlisted to officer, you could very well be passed up for commissioning and serve as enlisted your entire time.

Junior Navy officers can't just go into supply or human resources, you only really get to choose special warfare, aviation, SWO, or subs... All the lat transfers happen later. So the short answer is no, what you'll be doing enlisted is definitely not what you'll be doing on the officer side. That said, if you enlist there's a tiny tiny chance you'll ever become an officer (you and everyone else wants to switch over, huge competition)
i want to start my navy career asap, so im going in enlisted first as e3, and simultaneously put in my OCS pachage. I want to go in enlisted as MA, but when i get commisioned i want to go in Supply or Human Resources---a completely different area/job/. Will this matter or do I HAVE to go in enlisted as what ill eventually be doing on the officer side? thanks!

MBA: Masters in Business Administration MA: Master of Arts MSc: Master of Sciences

MA and MS are academic degrees. You can stop after these degrees or go on for a PhD. MS is in the sciences while MA is in the arts. A master's in finance would be an MS, not an MA. The MBA is a terminal degree that is meant to be more practical and less theoretical than an MA or MS. The best MBA programs are in the US (actually about 18 out of the top 20 programs are in the US). BusinessWeek and US News & World Reports both rank B-Schools. You can view those rankings on their web pages. In my opinion, the best MBA programs are: Wharton, University of Chicago, MIT, Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, Tuck, Harvard and Columbia

hello, every one on the Yahoo answer,
| hello, every one on the Yahoo answer,? i have a question which is a bit thinkable and related to educational background, my question is Currently i am employed by transport for london and doing my MA degree in Human resource Management, and at this point i have to make a dissertation for my degree to get it on time, so i need help for the topic that which topic should i choose that should be contemporary and have that much importance to raise in my dissertation , and also approachable when i go for research and also could get good results too. i would be very thank full if some one come up with a good topic which i could cover within my ogranisation (Tfl). regards Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions : 1 okay??? 2 If you are currently not employed within the HR dept of London Transport, then I would talk with the HR staff for their ideas. They might have the best insight with regards to contemporary issues, and how available data is to support your dissertation. If you were to treat the conversation as an interview, rather than asking them directly for a suggestion, it might be better received, and it will allow you greater insight as to their role within the organization you work for. Below are a few thoughts I have for topics or questions that will help you define a topic: 1. Retention of staff: What is the current rate of turnover? Why does staff leave? What would make them stay? What division tends to have the greatest turnover? 2. Cross training: Are employees "specialized" in one area of the business? Is this a good idea or would cross training in another area of the company extend their interest in staying with the company? 3. Future of the business: What is the greatest challenge that the transport industry will face in the next 5 years? How are you currently preparing to meet that challenge? 4. How do other transport companies operate? What is the difference between London's transport company and New York City? What is the same, what is different and how can we learn from each other. 5. What is your interest in Transport and how does it relate to HR? What is your personal experience with HR and what issues are you most interested in? I would be sure to hire a proofreader for your dissertation, to be sure your punctuation and syntax is correct. When presenting an idea, try to state it as succinctly as possible. Good source is William Strunk's "Element of Style". Written in 1918 its points are still valuable. Particularly for your purposes, are the Elementary Principles of Composition. http://www.bartleby.com/141/ |

Human Resources Entry Level/Growth Help
Human Resources Entry Level/Growth Help?
I recently graduated from a university with a BA in Sociology. I am interning as a Staffing/Sourcing Coordinator (2 months so far) but I'm really looking for an HR Admin/Coordinator/Assistant position because I want to be a Generalist, working my way up to HR Manager and ultimately become an HR Strategist at the Exec level. I am currently studying for my PHR exam set for December as a recent grad but in the case I don't pass (I only get one chance since they're requiring 2 years of HR experience in 2011), should I apply to a MA HR program. They offer one in San Francisco. What kind of title can I expect with minimal experience but an MA in HR. I also plan on going for my MBA in the near future for sure, but really i'm looking for something to help me enter a generalist role. the MBA is for later when I want to move up to management. Thanks!

You should probably see if you can get a position in a company as an HR Assistant or other entry level job when your internship ends. You probably won't get a Generalist position with no experience, but you will be able to advance faster with your PHR. I don't know why you'd get your MA in HR and then go get your MBA later, you should be able to get your MBA with an HR emphasis when the time comes. It seems like it would be too many degrees and not enough experience. I think you should focus on gaining experience in order to advance. Remember that your PHR requires two years of HR experience in an exempt role, and an HR Assistant position would probably be non-exempt depending on the company.

The title isn't what you should really be seeking. What you should be focused on is getting the experience that allows you to move in the direction you want. And you are probably tied into an awesome resource at your university: the career center. They should have companies that know the universities programs, the quality that it produces and that would be interested in networking with you. You should really exploit them. You should also look at the alumni association and try to get some informational interviews with people who are in HR roles and learn how they succeeded, didn't, and can share their mistakes so you don't have to make them all over again. And the networking you'll do if you do this is invaluable. Regarding an MBA to support a future management role - In my company I sit at the executive management table as an HR professional and I don't have an MBA, let alone an MA. That doesn't mean an MBA won't help you or that you shouldn't pursue it. If you are passionate about it and understand how to apply the academic knowledge to the job/company - it can only help. There are many people who have the academic background that would generally support a management level role, but lack the experience to be successful. Conversely, there are those who don't have an advanced degree, and are in charge of large organizations because of their real world experience. Everyone has their own path, and every company has their own profile that they hire for. Last but not least - every company is different. What a Generalist is responsible for in one company may be very different than in another. This is especially true when companies look at recruiting experience as some companies absolutely require Generalists to have recruiting experience, while others it doesn't matter so much.
