Which degree is more useful? A BA in Business or a JD Degree?
Hello, I'm about to finish my combined BA/MA Public History degree, and it is at this point I think I made a mistake. I'm only 25 so I guess I still have time to fix this problem. I don't want to be a lawyer, but I was told my background in history would make Law School pretty easy. I was also told I can do other things with a JD degree other then law. So, which is better, a BA in Business (possibly human resources) or a JD Degree? Also, what minor is best to get with a BA in Business? Thanks. On what I wanted to do with my present degree, I wanted to work in an Historical organization or a government job, with teaching as a backup plan. I should have my Masters Degree in Public History by the end of Spring 2009. Thanks for the answers so far :) The thing is, I'm so close to getting my masters degree and it is now that I realize my job opportunities with this degree is quite low. The advisers told me otherwise, but I now found out the truth :/

JD

If you don't want to be a Lawyer, do not go to Law School. You will hate it. Why don't you apply to an MBA program?

There is no comparrison. A BA in business is an undergraduate degree and a JD is a post-graduate degree. You would need the former to enroll in the latter, but you are under no obligation to do so. If you do not want to go to law school, then don't. Find employment or complete a masters or Ph.D. program.

Law school will be a waste of your time and money if you don't want to become a lawyer. If you want to get your advanced degree, I think a master's in anything would be fine. As for a minor, it really depends on what you want to do. You didn't say what your future plans are so I can't help you there.

How do you deal with rude people
How do you deal with rude people?
I went on this website for a job, they said they were hiring on the mall website, but on the store website it didn't have a link for me to apply for where i live, it just had Cosmetics counter CA , and Retail Sales-TX etc... but the one that i needed was not there. So i called the store.. they had automated thing which got me no where, so i talked to a store operator. Explained my problem, and she transfered my call to comestic counter, noone answered. So i transfer back to operators.. a different lady answers, and i tell her i just spoke to an operator and said that I wanted to apply for a job online but that it wasn't listed...etc. (what i wrote already) And she said in a very superficial way, "Good for you!" and i was stunned. and just kept talking saying that I didn't know who to talk to about this. So that lady transfered my call to Human Resources. No one answered. So i transfered back to the operators. And another loud operator answered. I told her what happened and how no one had answered when they transfered me,.. and she interrupted me and loudly said "We can't control that ma'am" in a tone that implyed i was stupid or something and she didn't want to deal with me. And she continued to talk over me and then I heard a click and she transfered my call again. And if she would've let me talk... I would have said, Of course i know you can't control who answers the phone, I just wanted to know if there was another person I could talk to about this situation, and if not then Ok. But she rudely clicked and transfered me back to Human Resources. How do you deal with rude people? It honestly upsets me when ppl are rude to me when I haven't done anything and i'm being kind. I just want to know how do you deal with it. I'm tired of constant rude people, and i never know how to deal with them, or what to say, and it upsets me and embarrasses me. Because I am timid.

1. Look right at them say their name and tell them to stop. Keep repeating until their attitude changes or they stop. Example "Mike, stop", or you can say, "That's not appeciated, cut that out." Keep increasing aggressiveness as necessary until the balance of power is equalized. They don't want to cooperate with you, they want to control you. 2. Be better than them. If they brag or do something annoying, look at their facial expressions. Is their face blank and matter-of-fact, or does it have a smirk? If it is the latter, proceed on. If it isn't, simply try to turn the conversation. 3. Take a second to maintain your calm. After a while, you will start doing this automatically. 4. Give a smart, but polite reply that will not hurt either of you, but deeply satisfy your feelings. Here are some examples: "I have a cell phone. I bet you don't!" you would say "Of course I don't. I don't need one, as I prefer to enjoy talking to people face-to-face." "Why are you acting like a nerd?" say "I'm sorry. I am a geek not a nerd." 5. Always be on the ready. Whenever you are at leisure, think of some common crows that people make, and make your own polite reply. 6. Don't give them what they want by acting jealous. If they keep bragging, just smile and say "That's nice." 7. Act like you're more mature than they are. 8. Steer the conversation away to something they couldn't possibly be rude about, like the weather. 9. Avoid them if they keep on bothering you. 10. Try to ignore them if they keep on bothering you after you try all of the previous steps.

You need to report this to the supervisor or manager for rude staff and employees. Just call back to them and ask for the manager/supervisor or visit their website if they have one and contact them there. If you remember the time it occurred, include that. Mostly, I just give them a glare and then ignore them.

It depends on how brave I am. Sometimes I just pity them, assume that they are breaking up with their boyfriend and blaming the world, and forgive them. They usually hate that. Occasionally, I stop them and say, "I don't know if you realize that you sounded very rude just then, I am sure you did not mean that." Or I ask for clarification; "Did you intend to be rude to me, or was that just a confusion?" Even if they did mean it, they usually apologize. And if they don't, at least you have called them on their bad behavior. You can of course ask for a supervisor, depending on the circumstances that may help.

Hey, Being timid and submissive won't do any good for you. Often people who are soft and give in easily are treated in this fashion all their life. If you ask me I'd say that you will have to learn to be tactful. If you react emotionally or meekly to rudeness then it will only encourage people to continue behaving badly. Don't take things lying down respect yourself and make sure people around you do the same. In case of the above situation you should personally go to this place and have a talk with the concerned authorities. Don't get nervous or heated up, be calm and send across your point. Tell them you know that there job's not easy but then there is something like business ethics and public relations. Be firm and confident because they are the culprits not you. Lastly dear, be prepared for more such situations in life.

It sounds unlikely. However if it were possible, it would probably require a lawyer, and a lengthy legal process, (that would probably have little chance of success). Your best option might be to contact the places where you studied, and ask them what recourse you might have. Also, it would seem likely that the ruling by the Ministry of Human Resources would probably not be retroactive. It may only apply to future students. Contact the Ministry and ask.
