good or bad-grad school

good or bad-grad school?
So right now I'm an English major. Although I plan on taking some psych courses, I don't have research experience or anything like that, such as a minor. I'd eventually like to do something in the marketing/human resource field. Do you think that getting my MA/PhD in something like social psychology would be ideal or a waste of time? (MBA requires work experience.)

of course MBA requires work experience. It even requires a GMAT score. If that is what you want to go for, then you should go for it. But, i think the companies would prefer an MBA because these areas are more towards business. You could also try and get an entry level position in these departments (hey, you have a bachelors and that is a major requirement) and get some experience too. That helps.

What career path should I take

What career path should I take?
I'm a 27 year old young woman with a BA and MA in Italian Studies but am currently working in the Human Resources field. I want to do something creative and most importantly where I can make a difference in someones life. I would like to consider teaching Italian but there are such few jobs in that area. I would have to go back to school to teach in my state anyway. Is it worth getting more student loans? Should I wait it out where I am for a management position? Should I be a teacher? Help!

Go to Italy and teach English. You're a native speaker, they will snatch you up. You can travel and see Europe on your breaks. Option B: Two books: Go Hire Yourself an Employer http://www.amazon.com/hire-yourself-employer-Richard-Irish/dp/038503086X What Color is Your Parachute? http://books.google.com/books?id=hXfX7tch5ukC&dq=What+Color+is+your+parachute&pg=PP1&ots=fIjeZPIW5p&sig=EtNJ1U-_IGV2uxZGzvkgfrDmLY0&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result

Should I get another Bachelor's

Should I get another Bachelor's?
I have a BA in Human Resources. I am currently getting a MA in Teaching to teach elementary, I will graduate May 2011. I wish I would have chosen a liberal arts major. I think I want another Bachelor's in American Studies when I'm done with this Master's. My career is focused on education reform and the achievement gap. Will getting the American Studies bachelor's put me in a good position to pursue a PhD in the future or go to law school? I feel like that is what I want to do but I don't know if it's weird or regressive to get a Bachelor's after getting a master's. I think I want to do it because I regret my major, that it's not liberal arts and American Studies is highly recommended for urban teachers.

Getting another Bachelor's would be a huge waste of time and money. The only reason to get another bachelor's is if you are able to secure a position with a college or university -that doesn't offer a Masters or PhD program-and take classes for free, otherwise you're far better off spending your tuition money on a Master's Degree.

why would you want a liberal arts major? all employees say it gives you no plusses, maybe a technical one If you want a phd, talk to the university, I don't think they would object to human resources (which is human science also)

Hey there, you could look at the concept of burnout- I believe this is more likely to occur early in someones career because automatic processing is not yet up and running, therefore more mental resources are required early on in a persons career. I did some research on it in relation to teachers and the low retention rate of those who are new to the profession. Good luck

You could do something about survivors guilt of employees who keep their jobs during a massive lay off.

First, congratulations on your pending marriage in January -and, kudos for your commitment to get your Master's degree. A possible consideration for industrial psychology is to investigate the relationship between employee turnover (also known as quit decisions) and the management/leadership styles of those who directly oversee employees (staff).. There is an abundance of scholarly research material that looks at each of these factors separately and in combination ... as such, you will not lack resources from the Literature Review perspective. In addition, this is a study that lends itself well to both quantitative and qualitative research designs and that allows you greater flexibility and -in my view- a more robust and practical approach for your personal interest in the study. Good luck ... also, please feel comfortable in emailing any clarifying questions.

I suggest looking at the variables that determine success and/or failure on the job. You can look through successful and unsuccessful employees eyes, as well as their bosses. Good luck! Ciao!

The role of OSHA in the work environment. Are the safety regulations realistic to employees or more of a pain in the butt. How strictly are they followed? Are small violations permitted, what happens if all OSHA guidelines are followed? Are there guidelines not being followed? How do employees feel about it? Establishing a pecking order in the work environment. Who is at the top of the order and why? Who is at the bottom of the order and why? Do the people at the bottom know they are at the bottom? Management style and productivity. Reward systems and productivity. Clearly set goals and productivity. Evaluations and their affect on employee performance. Employee evaluation styles and their effects on employee performance. Employee perception of employee rights? Management perception of employees and the effects of that perception on employee performance. Weather and employee performance. Employee sense of administrative control and employee performance. Salary and employee performance. (Increased salary = increased responsibility and a heavier workload or not?) Time off work and employee performance: (Employees who take more time off, sick days, emergency days, holidays, birthdays, are more or less productive (overall and while at work) than employees who take less time off. Bathroom cleanliness and employee satisfaction. (Does haveing a clean bathroom have anything at all to do with employee satisfaction?) Management accessability and employee satisfaction. Complaint procedures and employee satisfaction. Music in the work environment and employee motivation / satisfaction / performance. Will playing different kinds of music effect the work environment. Room temperature and employee performance. Which is the best tempreture to keep a room for optimum performance. Hospitals have already done a lot on colors and making people feel at ease, but how about color and performance. (Would wearing a uniform enhance performance? What color should jump suits be? ties? Jackets?) Level of education and employee performance. (Some very uneducated people work very hard.) Education and job satisfaction has been worked to death. How about education and a sense of belonging? Belonging to the company vs. working for the company. (Instead of belonging, pride in ones work and in ones self and in the company.)
